Today I Read Your Obituary

Today I read your obituary.  I read with amazement the accomplishments you made, the many places that you have lived.  I saw a lifetime of education, study, and hard work.  I believe this because it is only reasonable to know that it took all of this to have the things listed.  I saw the great admiration that family and friends and people in general must have had for you.

But, what I missed was a mention of God or worship or something that would say to me that you knew Jesus and would spend your eternity with Him.  I searched the article again but still found nothing.

This makes me wonder and puts me in deep thought.

Did no one ever tell you about the love and compassion of Jesus and the sacrifice that He made for all of us?  Did no one ever tell you, that like all of us, you were a sinner and needed a savior?  That only the sacrifice of Jesus could give you victory over the sin in your life?

Or, was it because you were too busy accomplishing things and moving up the ladder?  Never enough time to know the Lord, to spend time in His presence, to know the sweet peace of a relationship with Him, or the wonderful friendship of fellow believers?

My heart is sad because I do not see a witness in your life.  I do not know what your destination has been, but it is frightening to think that you who were so intelligent, so gifted, so impressive, and may have missed the most beautiful thing of all – a personal and eternal relational with Jesus.

I pray that with this time of reflection, I will be more readily available and more enthusiastic about my witness that I may give to others and the spiritual heritage that I may leave behind when my name is called up yonder.
